Academy in Manayunk: Expanding Literacy and Transforming Education

Since its founding in 2006, Academy in Manayunk (AIM) has been dedicated to reshaping literacy education for students with learning differences. Through research-backed instruction and cutting-edge educator training, AIM has become a leader in literacy intervention, ensuring students and teachers alike have the tools they need to succeed.

With the support of The Albert M. Greenfield Foundation, AIM has expanded its reach, providing thousands of students with specialized education while training tens of thousands of educators in evidence-based literacy instruction. This investment has strengthened AIM’s ability to drive national impact in literacy education and teacher training.

Empowering Educators and Students Through Literacy

AIM has provided over $14.9 million in scholarships and literacy initiatives since 2006, allowing the institution to grow from a small school of 24 students to an established leader in literacy education, now serving 400 students annually at its Conshochoken campus.

Beyond its students, AIM’s impact extends to more than 40,000 educators across every state, equipping them with structured literacy training through AIM Institute for Learning & Research. The Foundation’s support has facilitated the expansion of AIM’s digital learning platform, making high-quality literacy instruction accessible to educators nationwide—particularly in underfunded school districts.

Addressing the Literacy Crisis

AIM’s work comes at a critical moment. National literacy rates are in decline, and districts are increasingly recognizing the need for structured, science-based reading instruction. However, funding disparities remain a challenge, limiting educators’ access to the training they need. AIM’s model provides a sustainable approach—helping schools implement best practices without ongoing external funding, ensuring lasting impact in literacy education.

Looking Ahead: Innovation and Workforce Readiness

AIM’s vision is clear: to impact 100 million lives through literacy education. As part of this mission, AIM is integrating artificial intelligence into literacy assessment, refining instructional techniques, and expanding its Global Innovation Hub—a learning space that connects students with business leaders and career pathways. By fostering real-world problem-solving skills, AIM ensures that students graduate not only with strong literacy foundations but also with the skills to thrive in the workforce.

Together, AIM and The Albert M. Greenfield Foundation are redefining the future of literacy education, equipping students and educators with the tools to create lasting change.

With the support of The Albert M. Greenfield Foundation, AIM has trained over 40,000 educators nationwide, ensuring that students everywhere have access to evidence-based literacy instruction. The goal? To impact 100 million lives.
