In 1998, the Academy of Natural Sciences established The Albert M. Greenfield Digital Imaging Center for Collections (GIC) with a grant from The Albert M. Greenfield Foundation. Since then, the Academy has made extensive use of output from the Center for research, information dissemination, and education. Digitized images of items from the Academy’s collections have been used for web pages and databases, in scholarly and scientific publications, and a broad range of communications purposes.
Through its Philadelphia Green program, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) has worked for more than 30 years in partnership with residents, community groups, government, and businesses to empower people through horticulture and transform the urban environment through greening. Begun as a neighborhood gardening project in 1974, Philadelphia Green has helped hundreds of city residents launch vibrant community gardens. These gardens replace blight with beauty and help forge community bonds among people of varied backgrounds, often serving as catalysts for further neighborhood revitalization.
